In hundreds of railway stations in the nation of India, thousands of children have been kicked out, abandoned, and sometimes literally thrown off of trains by their families. These children, some as young as 3 years old, find that their daily existence is a struggle. Words like Hope and Future are completely foreign to them. They have become part of the “landscape of society” in Indian railway stations – forgotten and discarded by the world.
But God has a plan for these kids.
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11(NIV)
Asian Partners International wants to be the “hands and feet” of our Father in Heaven to serve and minister to these forgotten and abandoned kids. We want to Rescue them from a destructive, homeless lifestyle, while giving them Hope and a Future.
The discarded kids that live in Indian railway stations survive by begging, stealing, performing menial tasks such as sweeping the trains, gathering garbage, and for some of the older kids, by prostituting themselves for money. Furthermore, many of these kids find comfort and “pain relief” by using drugs and/or sniffing glue. Most of these kids have been abused and are in acute need of medical and psychological attention. We want to rescue these kids from this environment, and provide a safe place for them to live. We want to provide food, clothing, medical treatment, and the basic necessities of life for these forgotten ones.
Once basic necessities and a safe haven have been provided for these kids, we also want them to have Hope. We want to find their families, if possible, to place them back where they can be an integral part of society again. We want to provide them an education. And most importantly, we want these kids to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. By showing the Love of God to them, and bringing them to Faith in Christ, they have new Hope and a new outlook on life.
We provide vocational training for these kids so that they can leave their destructive lifestyle and learn a trade. We believe that these young ones are the future leaders of India – and perhaps future evangelists and church planters. The following story is an example of this ministry in action:
One day a young boy about 6 or 7 years old appeared at the railway station. The other kids brought him to the ASSI leaders. This boy could not speak; he was mute. Through the use of signs and other non-verbal communication methods, the boy was integrated into the day-to-day routine at the shelter home. He received food, clothing, and some medical help.
He had been with us for about 2-3 months when one day he started speaking to the ASSI leaders. The boy said, “I must return home to my family”. Everyone was amazed that he could now speak! They asked the boy, “What happened? How can you now speak when before you couldn’t?
The boy replied, “Last night I had a dream. In my dream, a man, dressed in white, appeared to me. This man told me that his name was Jesus. Jesus told me that I must start speaking now. He told me that I must go home to my family to tell them about Him. So now I must leave”.
How can you get involved? How can you help us Rescue these kids, and provide them Hope and a Future?
1. Through your generous giving, you can provide resources for the staff in India to minister to these kids:
2. We can provide you with short term volunteer opportunities to directly serve the Railway Kids in India.
Please help us minister to these kids!

History and Progress of Railway Kids Ministry:
We started helping Railway Kids in February 2004. Hundreds of children have been helped since that time. Without this aid the lives of these children could have been wasted, and perhaps lost. The program focuses on kids that are 3-16 years old. We minister to them by providing education, food, counseling and medical care. Many of the children that are involved in the program eventually have the opportunity to attend regular school and APII provides the necessary means. These children live at the center where they are loved and cared for by guardians.
Since 2004, this project has grown in size and scope to 6 different cities at 8 different railway stations in North India. We currently have over 200 children staying at the centers and serve over 500 children weekly with food and education.
